Should electric drills be illegal in California?

Some time ago a foolish politician was herded into sponsering a law that cops wanted on the books that outlawed he .50 BMG. Mainly the cops wanted the publicity of a cartoon where a .50 BMG round made a hole in a police car. The .50 BMG has never been used in a crime. It was outlawed with the excuse that it might be used to shoot down an airplane. Roughly the same as swatting flies with a ten-foot 2"x4". We did an experiment the other day on a retired cop car donated to our fire department for rescue drills. We made 100 holes in the door with an electric drill faster than we could have dragged a .50 BMG to the practice area. Shouldn't drills and torches and anything that makes a hole be against the law? In keeping with the trend of making anything that could be used in a crime illegal. Like rocks...

  1. no
  2. In California, the inmates run the asylum.
  3. I believe that's your famous gun-loving republican governor who signed a ban on all .50 caliber guns. If a macho republican like him opposes a weapon, I think he's got a pretty good reason for doing so. BTW, can your electric drill accurately make holes in a cop car from 2000 yards away? Perhaps that's the difference you're missing. .
  4. When you can make a hole in a car from a mile out with an electric drill then you can ask your question again.
  5. Sounds like that cliched argument "it's not guns who kill people, it's the people who use them". Sure, that's true. But if you did want to go out and butcher thirty people in a McDonalds in an afternoon, it's a hell of a lot easier to do it with an automatic rifle than a bag of rocks.
  6. Of course. If we are going to be a nation of wimps, lets outlaw can openers, stones, sticks, and in order to prevent rape, all males should be neutered at birth. Once we make everthing that can be used to commit a crime, the world will be a wonderful place. All anybody who wants to slaughter McDonalds fans has to do is let them continue to eat there. Where do fantasy arguments like that originate? The worst mass murder I can remember in a fast food place was when a lady in Reno drove her car through a hamburger stand and killed half a dozen people. If she had shot one of them it would have been front page news for a month. The automobile kills approx. 600 people for everyone killed with a firearm in the U.S. Estimates are that half of the auto deaths are intentional. We have one fatality by automobile more than twelve times an hour, all day every day.
