Fly Swats

Are flies able to detect the danger when you have a fly swat?

Every time I try to swat a fly after a few hours of the little git taking the mickey and landing on my knee & other bodily parts, just to stick the finger up, like it knows I'm never gonna Mr Miagi the offending hell monger. So I go and get a swat; what happens? It disappears and hides!
